How to fish it
Upper dropper above a heavier anchor fly, dead drift through the deep seams. The hot spot works hardest in the low light of early morning and late afternoon.
A baetis nymph with a hot collar — natural body, loud thorax, best of both.
The Radiation Baetis takes an accurate small mayfly nymph body and finishes it with a bright collar at the thorax. The body keeps the fly credible to a trout that inspects it; the collar gets the trout to come and inspect in the first place. On tailwaters that combination beats both a fully natural nymph and a fully bright attractor.
Size 20, fished through autumn and spring when baetis are the dominant mayfly.
