Fish it high in the column once you see rises or refusals. Greased leader in the film, or 12–18 inches under a dry. The takes are subtle — watch the leader, not the fly.
About this fly
The RS2 with a synthetic sparkle wing — for the emergence, when the natural’s wing case is full of gas.
An emerging mayfly or midge carries a bubble of gas under its shuck that catches light underwater. The sparkle wing on this RS2 variant reproduces that flash, which is why it often out-fishes the plain grey version during an active emergence — and why the plain version is better once the hatch is over.
Carry both. The difference between them is small on the vice and large on the water.
