How to fish it
Fishing notes
Fish it on a short, stout leader — 3X is not too heavy — and hang an 18-inch dropper off the hook bend. Aim casts within a foot of the bank and let the fly hit hard; the splat is part of the attraction. Give it an occasional twitch in slow water, but let it dead-drift through riffles and seams.

Amy’s Ant is Jack Dennis’s answer to the problem of covering fast pocket water with one fly. The foam overbody floats a dropper without sinking, the rubber legs put motion into the drift even when the current does not, and the profile is close enough to a stonefly, a hopper and a big ant that trout rarely take the time to tell the difference.
It earns its keep on freestone rivers from midsummer through the first hard frost, and on tailwaters any time the wind pushes terrestrials onto the water. Fish it tight to the bank, in the seams behind boulders, and through riffle drop-offs where a trout has to decide quickly.
