How to fish it
The standard rig: Chubby on 3X, 24–36 inches of 4X to a bead-head nymph off the hook bend. Fish banks, seams and pocket water. If the Chubby goes under, set — half the takes on the dropper never move the foam much.
The foam attractor that floats a heavy nymph all day and still gets eaten on its own.
The Chubby Chernobyl is the workhorse of western dry-dropper fishing. Stacked foam and a poly wing make it effectively unsinkable, which means it will carry a tungsten nymph through a whole run without going under — and unlike most indicators, trout eat it.
It reads as a salmonfly, a golden stone, a hopper or a big beetle. Size 12 in purple and tan covers the spectrum from bright attractor to muted natural.
